NC General Update (GENUP)

The North Carolina General Update Course (GENUP) is a mandatory 4-hour continuing education (CE) requirement designed to keep provisional and non-provisional real estate brokers (who are not Brokers-in-Charge or BIC-Eligible) informed on essential industry developments. Administered by the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC), this course fulfills half of the annual 8-hour CE obligation for active license renewal, with the remaining 4 hours from an approved elective.

Provisional brokers completing their first renewal.
Full brokers without BIC status seeking to maintain active licensure.
Not suitable for BICs or BIC-Eligible brokers, who must take the Broker-in-Charge Update (BICUP) instead.

Renewal Timeline
For the 2025–2026 cycle, complete GENUP between July 1, 2025, and June 10, 2026, to renew by July 1. Early completion is recommended to stay ahead of changes—late submissions risk inactive status.
